A short and sweet version of Fresh Beer Report today…
BUNBURY MUSIC FESTIVAL
Jesse Folk reported about the lack of local options at festivals, Few local beers at Bunbury? Major local festivals suffer from lack of local options. Since then, there’s been a bit of a stir amongst the craft beer geeks enthusiasts online the last day or so.
Actually it goes back longer that that. Brew Professor had a post about it regarding the Taste of Cincinnati a few weeks back.
You can probably find some of the comments on both festivals on Reddit and on Facebook in the Greater Cincinnati Craft Beer Society or the #9 Beer groups.
Here’s my personal take.
First and foremost it’s a MUSIC festival people. It’s not a craft beer festival. We have PLENTY of those and that is fantastic.
Additionally, this is not a CINCY MUSIC festival. It’s a musical festival with regional and national acts with a few local acts thrown in to please the locals and probably to keep down costs. It’s not intended to showcase Cincy music or beer.
Would I love to see them represented? Of course. Obviously, I’m a major supporter of the local breweries.
Does it make financial sense for them? Probably not. At least not for the majority of them. If so, then that’s just a good business decision. Use that money and/or time commitment for other things. I’m sure there is no shortage of things they could better use that money for.
That being said, I think it’s great there is a passion for locals to be represented. However, just don’t bitch about it online. Get off your ass if burns it as much as you claim and call PromoWest and voice your displeasure. Heaven forbid, get out a pen and put your thoughts to paper.
For events like Taste of Cincinnati or events that are intended to showcase Cincinnati that to me would be much more worthwhile getting your panties in a bunch for. I know some of my beer friends are trying to make changes at those events. Best of luck to them.
As for me, I will be there tomorrow enjoying the MUSIC and if I have a beer I’ll search for something local. Really, it doesn’t have to be local. It just has to be good and what I am in the mood for.
One last Bunbury related item, it was reported by Cincinnati.com that the lines were running about an hour to get in. That seems a little crazy. I’m shocked there was not more that one entrance. Hopefully, they make some changes for the rest of the weekend. Get there early just in case.
PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Game 1 of the NBA Finals kicked off last night. I missed most of the game but caught the 4th quarter. Great game. I was hoping LBJ would have taken it to the rim instead of settling for a long jumper. The best player in the game could get a better shot than that.
Hoping the Cavs pull one off on Sunday. Don’t panic Cleveland fans. Until you lose a game at home, it’s just playing out as it should. Steal one tomorrow night.
Oh, and this never gets old. Viva La Mora.
